Three Memorial Day services to honor veterans

Three different public Memorial Day services Monday in Juneau will honor our town’s veterans.

An annual downtown service will take place at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery. The event is hosted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Taku Post 5559.

The service in the Mendenhall Valley will also occur at 11 a.m., at Alaskan Memorial Park on Riverside Drive. It’s hosted by the American Legion, Auke Bay Post 25.

A ceremony for Southeast Alaska Native veterans will take place at 11:30 a.m. next to the Elizabeth Peratrovich Hall, 320 W. Willoughby Ave. Lunch will follow.

All City and Borough of Juneau offices will be closed for Memorial Day, and school will not be in session. Fred Meyers and Walmart are both open for the holiday during their normal business hours.
