WHAT is the policy Juneau Empire?

What is the policy on DUI arrests? Almost ALL people charged with a DUI arrest have their names printed here unless they are under the age of 18. But every so often, someone's name is left out as is the case with this 20 year old man. WHY? Was this person "privileged" for some reason? Was this the son of a politician? Was this the son of the owner of the Juneau Empire or the Editor's son? Is this the son of a COP? And if you don't think these questions arise in the minds of your readership who see these things, you have another thing coming. It is only natural that we would wonder and surmise that there is some sort of favoritism going on.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO PRINT NAMES, THEN PRINT THEM ALL. IF OTHERS "GET A PASS", THEN ALL OFFENDERS SHOULD GET A PASS. IT'S ONLY RIGHT.

@Kevin Nye

Hi Kevin,

As you know, our policy is to print the names of those adults who receive DUIs in Police & Fire. We by no means, under any circumstances, give preferential treatment to anyone.
Unfortunately, we are unable to print those names if they are not provided. We are currently in the process of working with JPD to remedy this situation and avoid it in the future. It's likely we will be re-running the blotters, once we can get names attached to the incidents.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Thank you.

AND, it is not like I am "desperate" to know every name. I just don't think it is fair for most to have their names printed, and then for others to get what amounts to a "pass" regardless of "why".

BUT, if you say that it was simply a matter of not having the name provided, then, I can accept that.

The NEXT question is, WHY would the po-leece fail to provide a name to you alll? This too, of course could be a simple slip up as well.

Anyway, thank you for your prompt response!
