Alaskan launches new year-round beer

For the first time since 2013, Alaskan Brewing Co. is launching a new beer that will be offered year-round.

Kicker Session IPA is spiced with five hop varieties but has a lower-than-normal 4.5 percent alcohol content.

In an emailed statement, brewing manager Rob Day said the beer’s name was inspired by the kicker engines on many Southeast boats. “Those little kickers have saved many folks here from having to paddle back to port — they may be small, but they’re reliable and always up for the challenge.”

The India Pale Ale-style beer follows the Freeride APA (American Pale Ale) that was released in February 2013 as a year-round six-pack.

Accompanying the new beer is a new branding campaign that promotes the small kicker engine.

Kicker will be available in 17 states, including across Alaska.

Samples are already available in the brewery’s tasting room on Shaune Drive in Lemon Creek; six-packs will go on sale March 19 at the brewery and at all Juneau stores on March 21.
