A reckless driver evaded police Tuesday morning during a traffic violation stop near Savikko Park that included a spin through the ballpark.
Juneau Police Department spokeswoman Erann Kalwara said that around 8:12 a.m., a person who turned without using a signal light failed to stop at the request of an officer. The driver then began acting in a reckless manner to avoid stopping, police said, including driving through the Savikko ballpark.
Kalwara said the officer stopped signaling for the car to stop so that the incident would not turn into a dangerous vehicle pursuit in the area. Officers later found the vehicle one mile away from the incident on Great Western Street without the driver inside. It was taken into custody as evidence. The person driving the vehicle is not considered wanted at this point, police said.
