A Coast Guard Station Juneau boatcrew came to the rescue of a heart attack victim Friday morning, according to an email from the Coast Guard.
The Holland America cruise ship Noordam reported the 70-year-old passenger was in trouble, and the station’s on-duty 45-foot response boat answered the call.
According to the Coast Guard’s account, the response boat delivered the passenger from the Noordam to a waiting ambulance in Auke Bay.
“Increased cruise ship traffic raises the potential for emergency responses during the summer months,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Chris Gauthier, a Sector Juneau watchstander, in a prepared statement. “Coast Guard crews train throughout the year in preperation for calls that can come in day or night, and our crew from Juneau demonstrated excellent teamwork in their response to this case.”
