Delta begins seasonal service to Juneau

Another sure sign of summer appeared in the air above Juneau this week, as Delta Air Lines’ seasonal service to the capital city began Thursday night.

Delta will fly once a day between Juneau and Seattle, as a Boeing 737 aircraft will land in Juneau at night and depart in the morning. Delta’s annual return to Juneau will bring more congestion to the Juneau International Airport, and Delta officials advise passengers to allow for two hours to check in.

Juneau’s airport is notoriously difficult to land at due to weather conditions, but Delta is more prepared for that this year, Airport Manager Patty Wahto said in a release Thursday. Delta is utilizing required navigation performance (RNP) technology to better deal with the weather conditions, hoping to lead to easier landings.

“When the weather is kind of nasty, instead of doing missed approaches, Delta has a better chance of getting in,” Wahto said. “It’s similar to what Alaska Airlines has. It puts Delta at a level playing field as far as getting in and out.”

The Delta flight crews would love to be here full time!    When they are here for the summer fares go way down!   I find it very interesting that people of Juneau complain about the price that AK air charges, and yet  do NOT want to support Delta full time

I had a stretch on Delta where i was, on average, nine hours late to my destination with no weather delays.

Delta's app also cancelled two electronic boarding passes while I was in the air on my connecting flight.

Eventually, the value of courtesy upgrades and flight vouchers isn't enough to make up for the constant inconvenience.

Delta needs to stop pointing the finger at Juneau residents and start looking in the mirror. Until and unless that happens, my time of "giving Delta a chance" is over.

Have you ever looked at the onetime performace of Alaska Air.   PLanes are constantly late arriving Juneaudue to delays and flight crews timong out due to poor scheduling. Plane arrive in Juneau sometimes 2-3 hours late with Alaska Air.

I always support #Delta when they are flying in & out of Juneau. I support competition and it brings down the fares.   The staff are really friendly and go out their way to help you.
