Sen. Lisa Murkowski will visit Juneau this week

Alaska’s senior U.S. Senator is coming to Juneau.

On Thursday, Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, will speak to the Juneau Chamber of Commerce to deliver a “D.C. update” on a variety of topics, including energy legislation.

Murkowski’s speech will take place at the Juneau Moose Lodge near the airport, start about noon and conclude about 1 p.m.

Murkowski spokeswoman Karina Petersen said Murkowski’s update will focus on energy and natural resources but touch on other topics as well.

Murkowski has had a full week; the senator, accompanied by Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke and four other U.S. Senators, traveled to Norway, Greenland and the North Slope before arriving in Fairbanks. Zinke continued to Denali National Park, where he declared that the “Denali” name of North America’s tallest mountain will remain, despite President Donald Trump’s campaign promises to the contrary.

Zinke and U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, met with Alaska Native veterans as Zinke concluded his trip to Alaska.

Admission to Murkowski’s speech (and lunch) is $20 for Chamber members or $25 for non-members. Reservations are required. Visit the Chamber online or call 463-3488 for more information.
