With five days still remaining in the month, Juneau has already set the record for the wettest January on record.

As of 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon, the National Weather Service measuring station at Juneau International Airport had recorded 11.29 inches of precipitation this month. The old record, set last year, was 10.16 inches of precipitation. In a normal January, according to figures from the National Climatic Data Center, the airport receives 5.35 inches of precipitation.

A burglar nabbed about $18,000 worth of jewelry and gold from a Juneau home last week, and police are soliciting tips from the public to solve the case.

The Juneau Police Department and Juneau Crime Line highlighted the burglary as their crime of the week Thursday. The burglary took place during the day Saturday, Jan. 17, at a home in the 17000 block of Glacier Highway, police said.
