JUNEAU — Goldbelt Incorporated has appointed Jim Duncan Jr. to the position of General Manager of the Mount Roberts Tramway.  He is replacing longtime General Manager George Reifenstein, who is retiring at the end of May.

According to a release from the organization, Duncan has fourteen years experience at the tram. He began his employment in March 1997 as the retail manager and for the past ten years has worked as the director of operations. Duncan was born and raised in Juneau and is a Goldbelt shareholder. 

JUNEAU — A 34-year-old Juneau man has been sentenced to seven years and three months in a federal penitentiary for his conviction of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Federal prosecutors say Jayson Steven Dennis carried a loaded .45-caliber pistol and a .40-caliber pistol during a drug transaction.
KINY-radio reports police found Dennis with one of the guns during a traffic stop.
Prosecutors content Dennis also threatened a government witness in the case, a confidential informant, before his trial.
U.S. District Court Judge John Sedwick sentenced Dennis on Friday.

Monday:

• The Juneau Human Rights Commission will host a cultural stories and history talk at 6:30 p.m. at the UAS Egan Lecture Hall.

• The CBJ Assembly will meet at 7 p.m. in the Assembly Chambers, and will include action on creating a library department and transfer of funds.

Tuesday:

• The AJ Mine Advisory Committee will hold a worksession at 5:30 p.m. in Centennial Hall in the Hickel Room to finalize it’s report to the Assembly.

Centennial Hall was filled Sunday for the Celebration of Life for George W. Rogers, a name many Alaskans are familiar with, and many locally know well.
