Being both a post office and a gift shop that promotes local art, Kindred Post is well suited to pair art with postcards.

From July 24 to Aug. 20, Kindred Post is holding a regional postcard art contest. Artists of any age can enter, and the winners will win $100 and see their work printed on 1,000 postcards that will be featured at Kindred Post.

Kindred Post owner Christy Namee Eriksen said the contest was a logical one for Kindred Post to organize.

“As a post office committed to art and our community it makes so much sense for us to create a postcard collection that highlights the talent of our town,” Eriksen said in a release. “I’m excited for this contest because it helps us learn more and tell a bigger story about our local artists. We’re hoping to be surprised.”

Artists are allowed to submit up to five pieces of work, and may turn in photos, paintings, drawings or even Adobe Photoshop creations. The Kindred Post has set up an online submission site, located at bit.ly/KPpostcardcontest, or artists can email hello@kindredpost.com.

Preference will be given to Juneau-based artists, and to artists who identify as ALAANA (African, Latino, Asian, Arab or Native American), women, LGBTQ or an individual with disabilities.
