Capital City Fire/Rescue needed more room, and that’s what it got. Now, it’s throwing a party.
Station 3, located near Juneau International Airport, underwent a remodeling process to fit CCFR’s longest Airport Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) truck, which is 35 feet long. The project began in August 2016 and finished this July, and now CCFR wants to show the building off.
CCFR is hosting an open house and barbecue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday at Station 3 to celebrate the completion of the project and to show off its newest addition to the fleet — a 1991 Oshkosh Airport Crash Fire Rescue Truck. The station, which houses CCFR’s airport firefighting equipment, is located at 1700 Crest Avenue.
The remodeling project cost $2.6 million, most of which came from a Federal Aviation Administration grant. The State of Alaska and the City and Borough of Juneau helped out with matching grants of about $81,000 each. Dawson Construction, Jensen Yorba Lott Architects of Juneau, Murray & Associates Mechanical Engineers, PND Engineers and Begenyi Electrical Engineering all contributed to the remodel.
Saturday’s open house is part of Parks & Recreation’s Day of Play. CCFR and the airport will conduct limited rides on the trucks, while BP Exploration is taking care of the food.
