City holds public meeting about upcoming downtown street improvements

The next phase of the City and Borough’s downtown street project begins next spring, and residents can learn about what to expect at a meeting Monday night.

From 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Baranof Hotel’s Treadwell Ballroom, the city’s project team will explain what the next phase of the project will entail. The improvement project will encompass all of Front Street, as well as North Franklin Street from the Front Street intersection up to Second Street and a portion of First Street.

City contractors will install a new roadway, new sidewalks, new lighting and drainage improvements. It is expected to start in spring 2018 and conclude in the fall. This project is a continuation of the improvements that were made this spring, which also replaced streets, sidewalks, lighting and drainage on South Franklin Street from Manila Square to Front Street.

For those who aren’t able to make the meeting but still have questions, they can contact CBJ Project Manager Lori Sowa at 586-0875 or lori.sowa@juneau.org.
