This weekend, two musical performances will show off the music of Northern composers.

Arctic Dreams, the latest installment in the Con Brio Chamber Series, features four performers playing the music of Alaska, Finnish and Canadian composers among others. The shows, which are pay-as-you-can, are at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Church and 2 p.m. Saturday at the Andrew P. Kashevaroff State Library, Archives &Museum.

The quartet includes a distinctive mix of instruments, with percussion, flute and violin playing alongside a gayageum, which is a Korean zither. Jocelyn Clark will play the gayageum, with Morris Palter on percussion, Sally Schlichting on flute and Lisa Ibias on violin.

The shows will feature compositions from Canadian composer Christos Hatzis, Finnish composer Risto Pulkkinen, Alaska composer John Luther Adams, American composer Michael Timpson and others.

The Con Brio Chamber Series is an inclusive, collaborative forum for musicians to create, perform and share their talents. Its next shows will be Feb. 23 and 24, playing minimalist compositions by Philip Glass, David Lang and other composers.
