Mining and logging are part of Juneau’s history, and both industries will be on display this weekend.

The 28th annual Juneau Gold Rush Days are being held at Savikko Park in Douglas from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, June 16, and Sunday, June 17.

Saturday features a day full of mining-inspired competitions that includes jackleg drilling, spike diving, team drilling and hand mucking. Sunday’s logging competitions will feature climbing, chopping, log rolling and axe throwing. The weekend concludes with a miners vs. loggers tug-of-war. A children’s carnival will be held from 1-3 p.m. both days. Adults and children may also participate in gold panning on both days from 1-3 p.m.

There will also be vendors all weekend long.

In Wednesday’s paper, the Empire gave the incorrect dates for Gold Rush Days. It is happening this weekend, not next weekend. We apologize for the error.
