Douglas Christmas tree to be lit Friday evening

On the morning of Nov. 23, Douglas Fourth of July Committee volunteers set up the Christmas tree in Pioneer Pavilion at Savikko Park. The spruce tree, donated by Dale Henkins, has been secured and decorated, and will be lit Friday evening during a holiday program beginning with the lighting ceremony at 6:30 p.m. at 105 Savikko Park. Following the tree lighting, refreshments will be offered in the Treadwell Ice Arena by the Douglas Community United Methodist Church, starting at 7:15 p.m. The ice arena will also host the Santa Skate with Santa and his merry elves from 7:45 to 9 p.m.

The Christmas tree will remain lit from Friday’s event through Jan. 6, during which time residents may take photographs on a stage in front of the tree. The committee suggested early morning and early evening for the best lighting.

The committee also extended thanks in a press release to all who volunteered to help with the setup of the tree.
