Volunteer firefighter of the month

Name: Amanda Carlson

Credentials: EMT 1, currently in FFI class

District: Juneau/Douglas

Employer: Intercon Security

How long with the fire service: One year

Reason for joining the fire service: I joined the department because I wanted to get back involved in emergency services after I moved to Juneau from Michigan. I was a volunteer there and I missed doing that a lot.

Favorite aspect of the fire service: I enjoy being continuously challenged to learn new ideas and skills and to improve on the skills I already have. Deciding to become a firefighter at CCFR was a great choice for me along with my move to Juneau.

Reason nominated: Amanda, as one of are newest and rising firefighters, has been putting a lot of time at the station. She does rig checks, station cleaning on her shift and helps with Sunday cleaning. She has been spending countless hours practicing her skills for FF1 as well as going to fire and EMS calls and training drills. Amanda has become a great asset to Douglas station.
