Benefit planned for explosion victim

Firefighters’ union to host benefit for explosion victim

A fundraising dinner for a man burned in a propane explosion will take place from 3-8 p.m. June 18 at Thunder Mountain High School.

Shawn Boddy lived on a sailboat while attending a welding school in Soldotna when the explosion happened. He received treatment at both Providence Hospital in Anchorage and Harborview Medical Center in Seattle before returning home to Fairbanks to live with his wife.

Shawn grew up in Juneau, and is the son of Dave and Karen Boddy.

The dinner will include pulled pork, chicken, beans and a salad for $15 a plate. Raffle tickets will also be sold for a Labor Day drawing. Each raffle ticket book will cost $20 and has five tickets

Proceeds from the dinner will go to Shawn and his family to assist with medical bills.
