Alison Hadley, daughter of Heather and Kevin Hadley of Juneau, received the $1,000 Dr. Rebecca A. Stephenson Award in recognition of her exceptional student research and contributions to the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and the University of Guam.

Her award was presented during the college’s annual awards ceremony May 13.

Alison began attending the University of Guam as an exchange student from the University of Alaska Southeast in spring 2009. She transferred as a full-time resident student after her one-year exchange experience and is expected to receive her Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree with an emphasis in sociology in December 2011. She is actively involved with the university’s Green Team, which spreads awareness of sustainability by launching green initiatives on campus and in the Guam community. She has presented research at two international conferences in Hawaii and New Zealand. She recently returned from Bali where she was involved in a field experience for a community development course. She and the other members of the Bali cohort are publishing a book of their academic papers, which Hadley hopes to take back to Bali for a writers’ festival in October.
