Hamming it up

Juneau Amateur Radio Club members Pat Moore, Carol Bruce, and Howard Shepherd participate in the American Radio Relay League Field Day held June 25 and 26 at Hagevig Fire Training Center. The Juneau club uses the field day to practice emergency response capabilities and made more than 500 on-the-air contacts. This annual event enables licensed members to improve their ham operating skills and learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions. It also is an opportunity to demonstrate amateur radio to local elected community leaders, key individuals with the organizations that amateur radio might serve in an emergency, as well as the general public.
