Library winners for the week of July 17

Kids coming into any of the three public libraries this summer may enter a weekly drawing for prizes donated by local businesses. To enter the drawing, write a book review on forms available at the library or online at


Juneau branch

Sosan Monsef, age 9.

She won a gift certificate from the Imagination Station.

She read “Luv Amelia, Luv Nadia” by Marissa Moss.

She wrote “Marissa Moss’s books are so interesting that I decided I should read it. I know that it will be a cool ending — as usual. People who love to write and draw might like it.”

Finnegan Lamb, age 4.

He won a gift certificate from the Alaska Shirt Company.

He read “My Dad’s a Birdman” by David Almond.

He wrote “It looked like a fun book. I finished it to find out if it was exciting at the end. My friend Sydney might like it.”

Mail service winner

Eden Miller, age 8 from Yakutat.

She won a drawing set and a book from the Friends of the Juneau Public Libraries.

She read “Henry & Mudge in the Family Tree” by Cynthia Rylant.

He wrote “I love that they (Henry & Mudge) were at Cousin Annie’s and I want to finish all the Henry & Mudge books. Kids K — grade 2 will like these books.”

Valley branch

Keenan Miller, age 9.

He won a gift certificate from Nugget Alaskan Outfitter.

He read “Kings of Clonmel: Book 8 of the Ranger Apprentice Series” by John Flanagan.

He wrote “It was part of a good series I was reading. He (the author) hooked me in like with the other books and gave me an urge to finish it. Someone who likes fiction, castles, and medieval times might like this.”

Jonathan Laitinen, age 5.

He won a pass for himself and an adult from Mount Roberts Tramway.

He read “Zipping, Zapping, Zooming Bats” by Ann Earle

He wrote “I wanted to learn about bats. I like to learn about bats. Kids who want to learn about bats and like animals might like this book”.

Douglas branch

Margot Oliver, age 7.

She won a gift certificate from Rainy Retreat Books.

She read “A Couple of Boys Have the Best Week Ever” by Marla Frazee

She wrote “It was awesome and kids who love funny stuff might like it”.

Quentin Curtis, age 3.

He won a gift certificate from the Amazing Bookstore in the Airport Mall.

He read “Greedy Apostrophe” by Jan Carr.

He wrote “I love exclamation marks (!). The apostrophe was changing all the words. Mazy might like it.”
