Volunteer Firefighter of the Month, CCFR

Name: Rob Kindred

Credentials: Firefighter I, EMT I, Engineer

District: Auke Bay

Employer: Stay at home dad

How long with the fire service: 13 years for CCFR, 7 in Clatsop County, Ore.

Why did you join the fire service?: I can’t remember what exactly made me decide to join the fire service two decades ago. Maybe it was the camaraderie, maybe it was the challenge of fighting fires with a first due engine three years older than I was and no hydrants, just two tenders to shuttle water. I worked with a lieutenant who talked about it, and that got me interested. I filled out an application in April 1992, and was voted in the next month. I’ve been answering the pager ever since.

Favorite aspect of the fire service: The sense of accomplishment. Being able to say, “We saved that building,” or seeing someone on the street, knowing that you and your brother firefighter/medics helped save their life. Not many professions can offer that level of job satisfaction.

Reason nominated: Rob has been with us for quite some time. Recently he has been very active including doing several different projects. His attitude is always great and he has a unique sense of humor. He’s been a big help with the live-ins while juggling his own family including a brand new baby.
