Lego - let's go! 5th annual Juneau Jamboree

The fifth annual Juneau Jamboree was held Dec. 10 and FIRST Lego League teams from Juneau to Skagway to Metlakatla competed for awards and an invitation to an Anchorage competition in January. The teams were judged in a number of areas, from robot design to project presentation and core values, but the most exciting competition was out on the floor, when the teams got to see their robots in action. This year’s theme was food safety and the teams designed and programmed their robots to complete a number of tasks like ‘cleaning up bacteria’ and ‘putting food on the table.’

Everything on the table was actually made of legos but the teams learned a ton and had a lot to show off at the competition. The top two placing teams were, coincidentally, N2C2 and the Killer Cantaloupes, both Juneau Girl Scout teams. Other teams, representing most every community in Southeast, including newcomers from Metlakatla, earned an array of prizes, highlighting their programming, design, and spirit, among other qualities. Ten of the teams were also selected for the Anchorage invitational in January.
