JCF and Glory Hole Partnership

The Juneau Community Foundation (JCF) and the Glory Hole would like to thank the Juneau donors (past and present) who made our challenge match such a success. The community of Juneau’s generous donations exceeded JCF’s challenge match by more than 60 percent. After the last donation came in and was counted, and including $10,000 matched by JCF, a total of $26,074 was raised and given to the Glory Hole. These funds will be used to continue to meet the needs of many of Juneau’s homeless and those in need of food. The Glory Hole would like to express deepest appreciation to the Juneau Community Foundation for organizing this challenge.

Operation successful

Special thanks to Tyler Rental for the loan of a pallet jack to move all the boxes into the shipping container, McDonald’s for the donation of extra filler toys, and Charles Ward and Sarah Day of the Juneau Empire for writing articles about Operation Christmas Child.

The destination of the boxes is unknown, but those who chose to donate online and attached a “Follow Your Box” tracking label to their box will get an email in the coming months telling them where their box was delivered. Last year, Operation Christmas Child delivered more than 8 million boxes to 97 countries around the world, including Ghana, Madagascar, Romania, and Papua New Guinea.

For those of you who wanted to donate a box and missed the Juneau collection deadline, it’s not too late to donate through the “Build A Box” online program, where you can chose from a selection of gifts to fill a box. For information about “Build A Box” and Operation Christmas Child, go to

Thanks again to all for your help in spreading a little joy and love to children all over the world.

‘Tis the season

The JDHS Swim/Dive Boosters would like to thank the Juneau community for their support of this years’ holiday tree sale. The tree sale is our largest fund raising event and provides the opportunity for coach and team travel during the competitive season. This year’s sale would not have been as successful without the generous support from the Juneau Empire’s Mark Bryan, Alaska Marine Lines, Fred Meyer, Richard and Sharon Burns, and Sharon Gaiptman of KINY. Each year, this group of individuals and businesses goes out of its way to help ensure the Christmas tree sale is a success and we could not be so successful without them. Finally, a big thank you goes out to Max Mertz for his tireless effort and direction, and to all of the swim/dive parents and athletes who braved the weather selling trees this holiday season.

With gratitude,

Juneau-Douglas High School Swim/Dive Boosters
