The University Of Alaska Anchorage School of Nursing celebrated a recent graduation ceremony in Juneau on Dec. 17 with six graduates receiving their Associate of Applied Science in Nursing degree. This year’s graduates were Bryce Markey, Autumn Giordiano, Michelle Clark, Cindy Marble, Kathryn Rabung, and Leanne Dapcevich.

Parents, children, grandchildren and friends from Oregon, Washington, Juneau and Southeast Alaska came to celebrate this momentous occasion.

“Graduation is a time to thank all those who have supported you — financially, emotionally, spiritually, physically, with love, patience and hope knowing this day would come,” said Muench.

The children of several students shared how proud they were. For many, this was a dream achieved through hard work and balancing commitments.

The ceremony included keynote speaker Connie Roseman, UAA faculty and psychiatric clinical instructor, and lighting the Lamp of Knowledge while reading the Florence Nightingale Pledge.

The Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S) Nursing Program in Southeast Alaska is offered through a partnership between the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS), the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) School of Nursing (SoN) and Bartlett Regional Hospital. Individuals interested in the AAS Nursing Program are able to complete their pre-requisites at UAS through the Certificate in Pre-Nursing Qualifications, and can then apply to the UAA SON program in Anchorage or another approved outreach delivered site such as Juneau. There are a limited number of students accepted at each site; this program is competitive. Students who are accepted into the outreach sites attend classes on their local UA campus in those communities through video conferencing.
