Murkowski visits Alaska National Guard 143rd

Sen. Lisa Murkowski shows appreciation and gives troops a taste of home before deployment

Sen. Lisa Murkowski spent a day with the 118 Alaska National Guardsmen of Company B, 1st Battalion (Airborne) of the 143rd Infrantry Regiment at Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center in Edinburgh, Ind. As a small token of her appreciation, she handed out canned Alaska salmon to the troops before they leave American soil. They undergoing training to support three provincial reconstruction teams (PRTs) in Afghanistan during a year-long deployment. Three of the guardsmen are from Southeast Alaska, Pvt. Patrick Howell of Wrangell, Spc. Allen Isabell of Juneau and Staff Sgt. Paul Norwood of Sitka.
