Glacier swim club begins annual fundraiser

On March 11 the Glacier Swim Club kicks off its annual fundraising event, Aqualaps.

Swimmers will be seeking pledge donations from their family, friends and neighbors for eight weeks.

On May 5, each swimmer will swim as many as 300 laps to meet their pledge responsibilities — lap goals are set by coaches, and vary between 50 and 300 laps, depending or each swimmers ability. This year Glacier Swim Club continues its Aqualaps “Give Back” tradition and swimmers will participate with their Coaches in the Juneau Spring Clean Up.

The Glacier Swim Club is a non-profit organization offering a year-round swimming program for boys and girls ages 6-18. The participants learn correct swimming techniques, gain physical endurance and develop team spirit and sportsmanship.

The swimmers travel throughout Southeast Alaska and the interior, representing Juneau in age-group competition.

Glacier Swim Club was started in 1973 and Aqualaps is a long-standing Glacier Swim Club tradition. Many adult Juneauites may remember swimming Aqualaps.

Donations made to swimmers are tax-deductible and can be made in person or online.

Swimmers will be asking for pledges at Alaskan & Proud Supermarket, the Wharf building, Fred Meyer and Safeway during the months of March and April.
