The Sons of Norway Svalbard Lodge of Juneau will be hosting a Scandinavian Cultural Fair beginning 2:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, March 24 at the Juneau Yacht Club.
The Sons of Norway invite residents to discover the rich heritage of Norway and other Scandinavian countries.
There will be stations around the room for people to experience hands-on activities, as well as information and displays.
Norwegian specialty foods will be served, including lefse, krum kaka and hot beverages.
Community artists, authors, genealogists, cooks, musicians and lodge members will be sharing traditional Norwegian cooking; readings of Norwegian and Norwegian-American Authors; collections of Norwegian and North American Stamps; Rosemaling Folk Art; genealogy and family history; hand knitting (help to repair sweaters); Norwegian language and culture; figure carving; weaving; Scandinavian music with Dale Wygant and friends, possibly some folk dancing and children’s activities including Scandinavian board games like Kubb, a lawn game from the Viking era and a Billy Goat’s Gruff craft.
The event is free and open to the public.
