A recipe for success in supporting servicemen and women

If your cooking know-how outweighs your pocketbook, Kristen Josserand might have the perfect way for you to make a meaningful donation to help military servicemen and women.

Josserand is compiling 365 recipes for a book to be titled “Tried and True Alaskan Recipes” and all proceeds will benefit the Fisher House of Alaska.

The Fisher House is a “home away from home” for service members, veterans and their family members. It provides a warm, compassionate environment for families to heal, and support each other while receiving medical care at the Joint Venture DoD/VA Hospital on Elmendorf AFB, in Anchorage. There are over 40 Fisher Houses nationwide, plus two in Germany.

Josserand initially asked for contributions in February, prompting people to send in “30 killer recipes,” she said. She received 20 more through word of mouth, but is hoping to receive 315 more recipes to fill the book.

Whatever your specialty, Josserand has a chapter for you to fill, with categories like appetizers, beverages, breads, entrees, salads, sauces, sde dishes, soups, sweet dishes and more.

To contribute to the recipe book, email Josserand at triedandtrue@alaska.net or mail your recipe to PO Box 240054, Douglas, AK 99824.
