On March 14, sunshine was spread throughout the community with daffodils.
This fundraiser by the American Cancer Society has brought many smiles to many people throughout the years. This year we brought in $24,467. This could not have happened without all of you supporting the program, nor all of the volunteers who help with pre-sales, sorting, delivery, computer input, and finalizing paperwork.
There are so many to thank for their assistance and if I should forget anyone I apologize.
Many thanks goes out to Roscoe Palmer, Barbara and Welles Gabier, Judy Weske, Cindy Evans, Kathryn Clemens, Janet and Kevin Henderson, Bea Long, Tina Maryott-Gordon, Dorothy Burnett, Carol Whelan, Kathy and Fred Schmitz, Conne and Larry Depute, Frankie Miller, Sherry Garrison, Dr. Gary and Marge Hedges, Jan Somerville, Chris Donak, Sandra Dunn, Jirdes Baxter, Jennifer Stickler, Tina Seaton and Helen Fleming.
Thanks also goes out to Holly’s Hallmark, Curves Gym, Bartlett Hospital Cafeteria, Alaskan & Proud Supermarket and the management of Goldbelt Building for allowing us to sale and distribute daffodils at these locations. Thanks to Alaska Marine Lines for donating transportation of the daffodils to Juneau and for delivering to the Goldbelt Building.
A big thank you to KINY especially Sharon Gaiptman and Pete Carran for allowing me to promote the daffodils on Capital Chat as well as Pete for putting the information on the news regarding pre-sales and delivery. Many comments have been received that people heard about it on the radio and then either pre-ordered or bought daffodils on that day at the various locations.
As current chairperson for this program, it is time to step down and turn over the program to another person. We do have a person that is willing to step up for 2013 daffodil sales. I will be assisting that person in getting the program off the ground.
It has been a great seven years and I have enjoyed working with all of the people in Juneau and the outlying villages. It is important that we have volunteers to continue this program. If you wish to help in 2013, you may contact me at 364-3617 and I will place your name on the list for the new person. I am not stepping away completely — I will become a volunteer just like most of you have been.
Again thank you for all of your support of the American Cancer Society daffodil program and for bringing sunshine to all these people.
