6 TMHS students recognized

Faculty, staff, family members and recognized students were treated to lunch from Subway in honor of the students recognized in April. The students recognized are senior Macy Cook, sophomore Nicholas Wright, freshman Laurie DeBolt, senior Leroy Peratrovich and freshman Michael Lohrey, not pictured is senior Wilson Suzuki.

Six Thunder Mountain High School students were nominated by faculty and staff for their excellence. The event was organized by the TMHS PTO organization and featured guest speaker Wade Bryson, who owns the Subway franchises in Juneau. Subway provided lunch for the students, family members and other attendees of the awards luncheon.

Teacher Gene Randall nominated senior Leroy Peratrovich.

“Leroy is a top performer in my class. He demonstrates a serious attitude for learning, pays attention and retains lesson details — makes me feel like my teaching is making a difference. Leroy shows initiative by getting right to work, volunteering to help in class — always with positive, respectful attitude. Leroy takes an active role in his community and is a good role model for his family and friends.”

Teacher Heather Ridgway nominated senior Macy Cook.

“(Macy) constantly applies herself to create good work and to maintain personal responsibility for studio maintenance. She’s a fine artist, great student-mate and an exemplary art student.”

Teacher Carol May and Principal Dan Larson nominated Senior Wilson Suzuki, Sophomore Nicolas Wright and Freshmen Laurie DeBolt and Michael Lohrey, all members of a TMHS Robotics team.

“These members of the robotics team were invited to the Capitol to demonstrate and explain the robotics program to the legislative members during a Lunch and Learn session. All four of these students did an amazing job showcasing the robotics program, explaining the engineering process, and demonstrating how their robot works. They impressed their audience and even let some of them take the robot for a drive. A big thank you to Wilson, Nicolas, Laurie, and Michael for representing Thunder Mountain High School so well.”
