Fil-Com Gatekeepers

The Fil-Com, Inc. board invited Josielind Ferrer to train over 70 members of the Filipino community to be Gatekeepers, that is, to look out for neighbors in need in the community.

Southeast Senior Services Gatekeeper Program Manager Josielind Ferrer provided Gatekeeper training to at least 50 members of the Filipino community on March 10 at the general meeting of Fil-Com Inc. Fil-Com Inc. has over 370 registered members, of whom more than 10 percent are considered senior citizens. Fil-Com agreed to include Gatekeeper information on its website, and to share the information with members who were unable to attend.

The Gatekeeper Program trains local businesses and organizations that come in contact with older people on how to identify senior citizens who may be in need of assistance of some sort, and who to call when an elder is in need of assistance. Local businesses and organizations are welcome to call Ferrer at 463-6177 to learn more about the program and to set up training for their employees.
