Catholic Community Service recognized by Council on Accreditation

A national agency, the Council on Accreditation, has recognized Catholic Community Service, Inc., of Juneau for maintaining “the highest level of standards and quality improvement” in delivering services to clients. The recognition follows a three-year process of review and analysis by CCS and the council.

“CCS employees stand in good stead when measured against national standards of best practices,” said Rosemary Hagevig, Executive Director. “This is an important seal of approval for our clients and funding agencies.”

The Council on Accreditation is an independent non-profit that specializes in examining community human service organizations such as CCS. Council staff reviewed hundreds of documents requested of CCS and sent two experienced peer reviewers for a four-day on-site visit to examine the agency’s operations, policies and procedures, programs, and staffing in providing a wide variety of services to communities in Southeast Alaska. Ten administrative components and twelve programs were assessed against hundreds of best-practice standards.

“COA is proud to recognize Catholic Community Service as one ofthese outstanding providers,” Richard Klarberg, president and chief executive officer, said in a prepared statement. “COA accreditation is an objective and reliable verification that provides confidence and support to an organization’s service recipients, board members, staff and community partners.”

The statement said that reviewers looked for “services that are accessible, appropriate, culturally responsive, evidence based and outcomes-oriented.

In addition, they confirm that the services are provided by a skilled and supported workforce and that all individuals are treated with dignity and respect.”

Founded in 1974, CCS and its 200 employees and 250 volunteers provides comprehensive services to seniors and adults with disabilities through Southeast Senior Services (SESS) division, children and families through its Child Care & Family Resources (CCFR) division and people who need in-home care and end-of-life services through its Hospice and Home Care of Juneau (HHCJ) division,
