And they would swim (almost) 300 miles

Glacier Swim Club (GSC) has successfully completed its annual Aqualaps fundraiser. GSC was started in 1973 and Aqualaps is a long-standing club tradition.

Aqualaps brings all of our kids together for a swimming event where they swim from 25 to 300 laps, depending on age and ability. On May 4, 130 swimmers participated in our fundraiser. All told, they swam over 20,000 laps — or 293 miles. Thanks to the Juneau community the swimmers raised $88,000. We are very proud of our swimmers for their commitment and hard work in achieving our fundraising goal. GSC is so grateful for the Juneau community’s incredible support. We so appreciate your graciousness and generosity to our swimmers seeking pledges.

Thank you to Fred Meyer, Merchant’s Wharf and The Hangar, Safeway and Alaskan & Proud for allowing GSC to have pledge collection tables in their lobbies. Thank you also to everyone who took time to engage with the swimmers and make a pledge.

We are incredibly appreciative of the businesses in our community who have signed on as GSC sponsors.

To give back to the Juneau community GSC coaches, swimmers and parents participated in litter clean up on May 3. They picked up litter around both the Augustus Brown and Dimond Park Swimming Pools and the two high schools.

The Glacier Swim Club is a non-profit organization offering a year-round swimming program for boys and girls ages 6-18. The participants learn correct swimming techniques, gain physical endurance and develop team spirit and sportsmanship. The swimmers travel throughout Southeast Alaska and the Interior representing Juneau in age-group competition.

Thank you so much, Juneau. We appreciate your generosity and support.

Monica Gross, Kathy Blanc and Valerie Mertz, Aqualaps Co-Chairs, Glacier Swim Club
