The Juneau Garden Club recently honored the memory of recently deceased club members Mary Jo Hobbs, Doreen Hogins, Gertrude Dean, Diane Haines and Jackie Lorensen with the planting of a tree in advance of Arbor Day.
The group planted a flowering apple in the Twin Lakes area, not far from the children’s play park and the trail near the bus stop. Nationally, Arbor Day is the last Friday in April, but states celebrate their own Arbor Days based on best planting times. Alaska will celebrate tomorrow, the third Monday in May.
Molly Hodges, Carolyn Rasmussen, Marion Simpson, Alfrida Nord and Ed Buyarski planted the tree, as seen in this photo.
