The Learning Connection (TLC), the adult education division of SERRC – Alaska’s Educational Resource Center, recently celebrated success at its GED Graduation and English Student Recognition and Awards Ceremony. The event honored more than 110 recent GED graduates and 105 English as a Second Language and/or Citizenship students.
TLC would like to thank Central Council Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska and Holland America for sponsoring this event. Along with co-sponsoring the event, Central Council contributed a scholarship to its Vocational Training and Resource Center. The University of Alaska Southeast also provided scholarships to recent GED graduates.
TLC would also like to recognize and thank University of Alaska Southeast Chancellor John Pugh for his inspiring keynote speech; the City of Juneau Pipe Band for leading in the students; the Woosh-ji-een Dance Group for closing out the celebration with joyful and colorful dance and drumming; Marie Olson and the GED Alumni Association Volunteers for their time and support and the Learning Connection Scholarship Committee — Connie Munro, Lisa Corcoran and Janelle Cook.
TLC would also like to thank the following businesses for their generous donations of beautiful flowers and delicious cakes: Glacier Gardens, Martha’s Flowers, Miss Scarlett’s, Alaskas & Proud, Carrs/Safeway, Costco, Fred Meyer and Walmart.
TLC provides free adult education, English as a Second Language & Citizenship classes, computer classes, family literacy programs, and job search assistance services.
