Summertime events at the Juneau Public Libraries

Here’s a look at what’s happening at the Juneau Public Libraries this summer.

 

• June 1-Aug. 20: The Summer Reading Program runs all summer at all three Juneau brances and includes many activities for kids and families. All events are free and open to the public.

• June 5, July 3, Aug. 7: Summer Family Nights at the Valley Library happen at 5:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month and include a light supper, a special guest, stories and crafts.

• June 15: Author Mac Barnett will be at the Downtown Library at 1 p.m. to lead a free program, “A Million Laughs or Your Money Back.”

• June 5: The Stevens Puppets Troupe will perform “The Wizard of Oz”.

• July 3: Kids can come to the library to create costumes for the 4th of July parade.

• Aug. 7: Learn about bats (the kind that fly at night). More details to follow.

• Aug. 18: The Roustabout Circus will be back for a show at the Douglas Community Building (library & fire hall) at 2 p.m.

• June 10, July 8, Aug. 12: Family Movie Afternoon is the second Sunday of each month, at 3 p.m. at the Douglas Library.

More regular events:

• Storytimes with Crafts are held each week at all three libraries. See the schedule online or call 586-5267.

• Toddler Time is back for the little ones and their grownups on Mondays at the Downtown and Valley Libraries.

• Readers can submit reviews of books they have read this summer to qualify for prizes donated by local businesses. Prizes will be awarded each week at each public library. Listen to winning entries on KTOO’s “We Like Kids” or read them in the newspaper. Complete a reading game available at the three public libraries and choose a book to keep.
