Juneau Support Group for Families and Friends of those with a Mental Illness

The support group for families and friends of those with mental illness will be facilitated by Joanne Gartenberg, M.D. and Rabbi Dov Gartenberg.

Having a loved one or friend with a mental illness can be a source of intense stress, worry and anxiety. NAMI Juneau’s support group for families and friends of those diagnosed with a mental illness is designed to provide mutual support and teach specific ways of coping.

The eight-week long group will provide the greatest value for those who commit and participate in the entire series. Each meeting will include time to share stories and challenges, and provide feedback to one another. In addition, specific techniques for relaxation, mindfulness and compassionate communication will be taught and specific community resources will be discussed.

Both facilitators have personal experience caring for loved ones with mental illness.

These support group meetings will be Thursdays, 7-8:15 p.m., July 12 through August 2 at the Congregation Sukkat Shalom 211 Cordova Street in West Juneau.

Although registration is encouraged, no one will be turned away from this free support group.

Please call NAMI Juneau at 463-4251 or Dr. Joanne Gartenberg at 796-8498.
