Local businesses award kids at the public libraries - June 29, 2012

Kids coming into any of the three public libraries this summer may enter a weekly drawing for prizes generously donated by local businesses. To enter the drawing, write a book review on forms available at the library. This program is open to all kids through teens. All our summer reading programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Juneau Public Libraries.

Mendenhall Valley Library

Finn Lamb won a pass from Mt. Roberts Tramway

Book read: I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen

It’s funny because that bear he goes through all the animals and doesn’t recognize his hat on the bunny until he gets to the deer and he remembers and goes back and finds the rabbit and the hat. It’s a short book. People who like a little funny and a little weird might like this book.

Keenan Miller won a gift certificate from the Alaskan Fudge Company

Book read: The Devil’s Triangle by Elwood Bauman

I wanted to learn about the Bermuda Triangle and it was interesting.

Downtown Public Library

Book read: Batman:Year One by Frank Miller

I choose it because I heard it is good and I like comics. I finished it because it was good! People who like Batman and or comics will like this book.

Caden Haygood, age 5, won a gift certificate from The Shirt Company.

Book read: Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes

I choose it because it is my kindergarten book. I liked it because all those kids in Chrysanthemum’s class laughed at her and she dealt with it. My brother Bryce might like this book.

Douglas Public Library

Levi Traxler won a gift certificate to the Amazing Bookstore

Book read: Mammoths on the Move by Kurt Cyrus

I chose this book because it had mammoths in it and finished it because it was good. My sister might like it.

I chose this book because on the back it says “Warning! This book contains smelly socks”. I finished it because it was funny. Kyle might like it.
