On July 11, at their monthly meeting, the following officers were installed for Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5559. The outgoing Post Commander was George Rogers and the installing Officer was Tim Armstrong.

The mission of the VFW is to foster camaraderie among United States veterans of overseas conflicts, to serve veterans, the military and our communities, and to advocate on behalf of all veterans.
The Alaska State Elks Association held its 64th annual convention May 2-5 in Palmer. Among the approximately 150 delegates and guests were Alaska State Sponsor, Past Grand Exalted Ruler Roger R. True and Washington State Elks Association President Joe Basil, Washington President-Elect Bob Ferda and other Washington State Elks Association officers.
Mark Daum of Sitka Lodge #1662, was installed as state president. Other officers installed with Daum were President-Elect Janet Johnson of Kodiak, Vice President Joel Hembach of Eagle River, Secretary Paul Whitney of Soldotna, Treasurer Al Nagle of Eagle River, Trustees Jon E. Shennett of Sitka, Konrad Jackson of Soldotna and Bruce Morinitti of Eagle River.
Also installed were Historian Perry Streeter of Palmer, Chaplain Christian Blanco of Sitka, Sgt. at Arms Jennifer Judge of Soldotna and Tiler Dave Blick of Ketchikan.
The Alaska State Elks Association will hold its next annual state convention May 2-5, 2013 at Sitka Lodge #1662.
