King Island Christmas auditions this weekend

It’s only August, but Juneau’s theater scene is already looking ahead toward the holidays.

The locally produced play “King Island Christmas,” which has been performed in Juneau on and off again for many years, is returning again this holiday season, the play’s organizers announced Monday.

Organizers are holding auditions for the play this weekend, and are searching for talented singers.

Auditions are taking place Saturday, Aug. 13 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 14 from 1-5 p.m. at Northern Light United Church.

“King Island Christmas” is based off a true story of one Christmas taking place on King Island in the Bering Sea, was observed by Rie Muñoz, turned into a children’s book by Jean Rogers and adapted into a play by Deborah Brevoort. The proceeds of the play will go to United Way of Southeast Alaska. It will be performed in the Mendenhall Valley on the Friday and Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend (two evenings and a Saturday matinee), and during the First Friday Gallery Walk at the Juneau Arts and Culture Center.
