Pitchapalooza comes to Juneau Thursday

The Juneau Public Library will be taking part in a statewide book event called Pitchapalooza this week, offering local writers a chance to pitch their book ideas to professional agents.

Pitchapalooza has been organized in Alaska through the Craig Public Library, which will be holding a series of events from Aug. 16 through Aug. 22. The Craig library has also organized events in other parts of the state through the OWL Project videoconferencing feed. Juneau’s event is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. at the downtown library.

Selected Juneau participants will get one minute to pitch their book to a panel of industry experts, then receive feedback about their presentation. The winner of the pitch cycle will receive a free half-hour consultation with Arielle Eckstut and David Henry Sterry, The Book Doctors. Eckstut is an agent-at-large at The Levine Greenberg Literary Agency in New York City. She is also the author of seven books. Sterry is the author of 12 books, and a regular contributor to the Huffington Post. Prior to becoming a writer, he was a comic and actor who worked with stars such as Michael Caine and Will Smith.

Limited spaces are available for writers to pitch their books in Juneau and registration is required.

More information including a video of a Pitchapalooza event and registration is available at the Craig Public Library’s website, www.craigpubliclibrary.org/pitchapalooza.html, or find out more at www.juneau.org/library.
