The JDHS Drama Department was recently named one of the best high school drama departments in the Nation for 2012 by the American High School Theater Festival Committee out of the more than 2,200 departments nominated. JDHS Drama is one of the 40 programs selected to attend the AHSTF in 2013; this two-week, all inclusive programs runs in conjunction with the world renowned Fringe Festival in Scotland. The students will produce a four-performance run play at the festival, collaborate with other top drama programs, and participate in workshops, sight-see and the list goes on. They will represent their school and community on this adventure.
There are 25 eligible students involved in the JDHS drama program slated to go on this trip. To remain eligible, in addition to the fundraising, students must be committed to the JDHS drama program, participate in school productions, take related courses and maintain grades and attendance standards required for travel. The students must work as a team to earn the funds necessary. It is estimated this will cost $6,500 per student or a total of $162,500 — no easy feat. Fundraising started this spring. Including this past event, the kids have raised almost $47,000! This event was a big step along the way to making Scotland 2013 a reality!
If you would like to help support this great cause, tax deductible donations of any amount can be sent to the Juneau School district C/O JDHS Drama, 10014 Crazy Horse Drive, Juneau, AK 99801. JDHS Drama will be performing “Hairspray” in a joint venture with the Juneau Lyric Opera in November, Annie in February and another production in the spring, which will be performed at the Fringe Festival in Scotland.
Thank you again for your support,
