Early Learning Carnival for parents and children

Ellis Notmeyer shows Ema Jessen the glow in the dark hand washing soap to learn about the importance of hand washing, as her mother Masayo Nishiyama, Nurse Manager at the Juneau Public Health Center, looks on at the Early Learning Carnival held in September. More than 260 children attended with their parents to receive free health screenings and participate in more than 20 learning activity booths hosted by Juneau Partnerships for Families and Children.

The Early Learning Carnival at Harborview Elementary School was a tremendous success! Approximately 260 children attended with their family members. More than 20 booths were staffed by volunteers and community organizations where young children and their families engaged in fun activities that promoted good health habits and provided valuable parent education and resource information. Juneau Partnerships for Families and Children, a coalition of 20 different organizations would like to especially thank the Harborview Elementary principle and staff for providing the ideal space, the Flying Lions Vision Screening Team for providing free vision screenings using their specialized equipment, and the JDHS Drama Team youth for their energetic, friendly, and hard working support as they painted faces, guided families to screenings, led active games, helped children create artwork and served healthy snacks. We wish them all the best in successful fundraising as they showcase our talented youth on their international trip to Scotland in 2013!

Many, many thanks,

Grace Lumba, Family Services Coordinator
