The Juneau Community Foundation Machamer Fund donated $5,000 from the Machamer Fund to the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church for the McPhetres Hall kitchen. Board President Eric Kueffner presented the check to Alison Talley and Pam Finley.

“These funds will be used to help meet the costs of a community-use commercial kitchen,” said Alison Talley. “We have about $7,000 more to go to meet the $50,000 match from an anonymous donor. Then we need about $20,000 more to complete the project.”

The McPhetres Hall Kitchen will be used by the community for events and fundraisers, meetings for non-profit groups, theater or musical performances with food at intermission or after the show, backup for The Glory Hole, and other events. The kitchen will also be used by the church for food preparation for church events as well as weddings, bridal showers and other services.

“We think of it as the McPhetres Hall Community Kitchen,” stated fundraising committee member, Pam Finley. “A commercial kitchen at McPhetres Hall helps to address the shortage of commercial kitchens available in the area for public use and gives groups meeting here as well as performing art events the opportunity to provide food.”

The Holy Trinity Church opened in 1895. McPhetres Hall was built in 1956. The church and the hall burned to the ground in 2006. The church reopened in late 2009 and McPhetres Hall in the spring of 2011, but without the kitchen. “The Juneau Community Foundation is proud to be a part of this effort to complete the kitchen, said Eric Kueffner.”
