Attention all artists, authors, playwrights and poets: the University of Alaska Southeast is now accepting submissions for its 2013 edition of Tidal Echoes, the region’s only literary and arts journal.
Anyone living in Southeast Alaska is encouraged to submit samples of their work for publication by Dec. 1. The journal staff hopes to receive a wide range of submissions from all Southeast Alaskan communities and aims to have work representing each town and village.
As in past years, Tidal Echoes will feature poetry, prose and all forms of artwork ranging from photography and paintings to sculptures, pottery, carvings, beadwork, basketry and printmaking. At least 25 percent of Tidal Echoes will be reserved for UAS students, with the remainder being filled by regional submissions selected by the editorial board.
The UAS Juneau campus has made resources available for scanning photos and artwork or for taking digital photos of three-dimensional artwork. Any artist wishing to digitalize his or her work should contact Pedar Dalthorp in the UAS art department at 796-6503.
Individuals may submit multiple works, including up to five poems, 15 pages of prose double-spaced or five samples of art. All work must be submitted in a digital format, preferably as a TIF or JPEG file, via disk or e-mail. Text should be formatted in Microsoft Word or typed directly into the body of an e-mail.
UAS asks that submissions are accompanied by a cover letter that includes the contributor’s contact information (phone number, address and E-mail), UAS student ID (if applicable), the title of each submission and a short biography of the author or artist.
Submissions can be e-mailed to email@example.com, or mailed to Tidal Echoes, c/o Virginia Berg, UAS Humanities Department Soboleff Building, 11120 Glacier Highway, Juneau, Alaska 99801. Questions can be directed to Emily Wall at firstname.lastname@example.org. Detailed guidelines can be found online at http://www.uas.alaska.edu/humanities/tidalechoes/.
