This fall the Juneau Community Foundation presented more than $60,000 in grant awards from its Granting Fund and the Youth Sports and Activities Field of Interest Fund ($8,800), the Margaret F. Brady Fund ($8,770), the Douglas Dornan Fund ($16,840), and the John Caouette Memorial Fund ($27,000).
These Funds have been created by donor advisors in memory of loved ones or by the JCF board as Field of Interest Funds to support programs and projects in Juneau and Southeast Alaska.
Projects that have received funds include a diverse number of organizations and programs, including the Twin Lakes warming shelter in memory of John Caouette; an intensive art course for at risk teens; scholarships for young musicians (Juneau String Ensembles), artists (Sitka Fine Arts Camp) and runners (Lynn Canal Running Camp); funds to replace and repair Juneau Youth Sailing equipment; Young Parent Healthy Teen Center annual health fair; AWARE expansion project; NAMI Juneau’s Family-to-Family program; Whale Tail project; Skagway School District elementary school mural project; KHNS radio tower improvement; Taylor White Foundation teen driving class; Women in Safe Homes in Ketchikan; SAIL Inc; Juneau School District’s Southeast Regional Science Fair; instruments for Juneau Alaska Music Matters; Bartlett Regional Hospital Foundation; Foundation for End of Life Care; Discovery Southeast’s outdoor programs for children; and The Juneau Symphony.
The Foundation encourages local businesses and individuals to consider supporting one of its many Field of Interest Funds (Schools, Arts and Culture, Recreation and Trails, Youth Sports and Activities, Social Services, Health, and Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder) either now or for the long term through planned giving. These funds will allow JCF to make similar contributions in the future.
