A special tree for a special family

Juneau business leaders and agencies united to give a family a prize-winning christmas.

Of four lavishly decorated Christmas trees bedecked and donated by local organizations to the Juneau Chamber of Commerce’s tree auction at its annual dinner earlier this month, the tree designed and dressed by employees of Coeur Alaska and their families was the standout, coming with 25 gifts — books, games and other family activity-starters — one for each day leading up to Christmas.

The winning bid for the tree was placed by Juneau Empire publisher Mark Bryan, who promptly announced plans to donate it to a Juneau family in need.

“This is a special tree; we want it to go to a special family,” said Salvation Army Captain Donald Warriner, tasked with selecting the worthy recipients, “Of course, we provide trees to any family requesting one. Sometimes I wonder if we’re going to have enough, but Juneau always rises to the challenge of supporting organizations that make a difference in the community.”
