Juneau Bridge Club

Juneau Bridge Club suggests that if you can count to 13 and want to try something new in the new year, bridge lessons might be for you.

The Juneau Bridge Club is offering beginning lessons starting Jan. 8. Classes run from 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays for two months and will be held downtown. The cost is $37 and includes the textbook.

Jan Moyer will teach the class; assisting is her husband, Rory Darling. They have taught bridge lessons for more than 10 years and have played bridge for more than 30 years.

To register for the class or for more information, please call Moyer at 957-6972.

Bridge is a partnership card game that involves multiple layers of learning. This beginning class focuses on bidding and uses the Audrey Grant teaching method.

Moyer encourages people to take the class with or without a partner. This class is good for beginners, for those wanting a refresher and for players who would like to play duplicate.

The Juneau Bridge Club offers two sanctioned games each week: Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. and Sundays at 1 p.m. Additionally, contract bridge is played at the senior center on Monday and Wednesday afternoons.

The downtown Juneau Public Library will host a Global Lens film series beginning Jan. 13. The films will be shown on Sundays at 3 p.m. through Feb. 17 and are free.

The Global Lens series for 2012 will premiere at the Museum of Modern Art this month, then be presented in more than 35 cities across the United States and Canada throughout the year. This international film festival includes award-winning narrative feature films from Albania, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Iran, Iraq, Morocco, Rwanda and Turkey.
