The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) Juneau group meets monthly to discuss the art and craft of writing and illustrating children’s books — from board books to young adult. February’s meeting will be Thursday evening, Feb. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m., in the large conference room of the Downtown Library. A DVD of an SCBWI National Master Class with Tomie dePaola on writing and illustrating picture books will be featured. There will also be an opportunity for discussion. The meeting is also videoconferenced with an SCBWI writer in Hollis, thanks to new technology at the library. There is no charge for the meeting and those interested in writing and/or illustrating for children are encouraged to attend. Membership in SCBWI is not required but information about the organization, which has chapters throughout the United States and the rest of the world, is available. Call Peggy at 790-4943 or Susi at 586-3279 for more information.
