The Cub Scouts' annual Pinewood Derby

Cub Scouts, family and friends gathered at the Nugget Mall Saturday for the annual Pinewood Derby. Scouts competed in three age categories with cars they designed, carved and painted, hoping to have the fastest racer. Scouts try different strategies to have the winning racer, from the weight to the shape of the car. Father of two current Cub Scouts, Brian Holst, said his youngest son focused more on color, while his older son focused on aerodynamics. Results were not made available prior to press time, but look for an update online at juneauempire.com in the next few days.
